Devotion Day 3
Today's Devotion:
Acts 2:38 NIV
[38] Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
[39] The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
Reflection:
How time flies so fast, and I am now on the 4th day of January this 2025 and my 3rd day of my daily devotion. How I wish to consistently read my bible daily and to reflect on the Word of the Lord for my own sake.
There is comfort and clarity I feel from the Word of God. How great God is for providing us the Bible that was written by numerous prophets for thousands of years and that book is still alive up unto this day. And one of the mission I want to do in my lifetime is to finish and understand the Bible. It is also my dream to create something where I can rely my understanding of the bible like a book or maybe an interactive book, or a channel where I can put up the videos of what I have perceived and learned about the Word of God through the wisdom of the Holy Spirit.
About the scripture for today, repentance and being baptized is done for forgiveness of sins, so we can receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
What are the gifts of the Holy Spirit?
According to 1 Corinthians 121-11, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of the spirit, different kinds of tongues and interpretation of tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:1-11 NIV
[1] Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
[2] You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
[3] Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
[4] There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
[5] There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
[6] There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
[7] Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
[8] To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
[9] to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
[10] to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
[11] All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
This was written by Paul, the former persecutor of the Christians who killed them during his time and thereafter converted to become a follower of Christ, see how powerful our God is!
God's promises are for those who were baptized, their children and for all whom God will call no matter how far they lived.
